It is pronounced as ’ta’, like the sound at the start of the English words ta-p, ta-g

You may be wondering about another letter ट ta which you have already learnt. Don’t confuse yourself as this letter त ta is entirely different in sound. Just concentrate on pronunciation and you will see the difference.

Example: The Hindi word starting with (त ta) is तरबूज   tarbooj means ‘water melon’.

 

थ tha

It is pronounced as ’tha’, like the sound at the start of the English words tha-w, the-atre

This is an aspirated version of ट ta. Hear the sound of this letter and you will know how to pronounce it.

Example: The Hindi word starting with (थ tha) is थलसेना  thalsena means ‘army’.

 

द da

It is pronounced as ’da’, like the sound at the start of the English word d-uck

Example: The Hindi word starting with (द da) is दवात  dawaat means ‘ink pot’.

 

ध dha

It is pronounced as ’dha’. This is an aspirated version of द da

Example: The Hindi word starting with (ध dha) is धन   dhan means ‘wealth’.

 

न na
